Artist's Statement
"I work with fiber because it is an intimate,
although often unacknowledged part of our lives. Textiles
cross cultures and connect us to the past. They appeal to
our senses, inviting touch and spanning the gap that separates
art and the ordinary. I find that fabric and thread speak
directly to and about the domestic, and also about the history
of women, issues that I often explore in my work. Heirloom
sewing was once one of the few art forms available to women;
each piece that I create is intended as a contemporary work
of art and a permanent contribution to our history in cloth."
